Distance adoptions, or rather distance support, is a largely diffused method to give help to poor populations.
As regards our Foundation, distance adoptions, are addressed to both , children living in the village,, and , external children, whom we help.
Adoptions of children living out of the village are extremely helpful, not only for the child, but also for his/her family and the community where he/she lives. They are addressed to families living in particularly difficult conditions: numerous families, one-parent families, grand parents who take care of children after the death of their parents, seriously ill mothers or fathers, abandoned children, etc. Therefore the child becomes not only the direct beneficiary of the aid, but also a sort of symbol for all the other persons who, together with him, can have benefit from this aid.
Money we collect for the distance adoptions is not given directly to the family, except in few specific circumstances, but is used in various ways following the specific situation.
We mainly use this money to create positive situations allowing the development and improvement of life conditions of the mothers and/or parents of the kids we assist, through the creation of job opportunities, in order to enable the parents themselves to take good care of their own children.
With this purpose, we have conceived the “work projects” , and “working groups” are dedicated to these projects in a modified form of microcredit, adapted to the local reality.
Women meet in these working groups, where participants are selected with their own agreement, in order to create well-integrated groups. We provide initial funding to start the project. Then, every three months, we verify and assess the project development, and we provide a further funding, of a lower amount. In this way, the funding is linked to the progress and development of the project, and the women are encouraged to work hard to make it successful and autonomous for the moment when the funding is ceased.
New projects are continually started, even in agreement with the local Authorities, as they create new job opportunities for the benefit of the entire community. Most of these projects are socially useful, such as the cleaning of the Pediatric Department of the local Hospital, the preparation of meals for inpatient children in this Hospital, etc.).
Other jobs have been created within the Village itself, and mothers and fathers have been hired for posts of watchmen, farmers, gardeners, cleaning staff, kitchen staff, maintenance staff, etc.
In few specific cases, money is directly given to the families: when the parents cannot work because of age, disease, or disability. In these cases, we provide them with the money to pay food, rent, school taxes for the child and his/her brothers and sisters, and we give medical assistance to the whole family either in our Emergency Center, or in the local hospital, or other hospitals of the region (covering the relevant transportation expenses).
A distance adoption costs only 1€ per day, namely 31€ per month, and 372 € per year. It does not entail any legal obligation, even though it should hopefully last enough to follow the child in his/her growing up.
Download the FORM, fill it in and send it via internet, by fax or by mail. Only after receiving the form and the payment, we will send you the photo of the child you have adopted.
